Did Thompson Use “Threats” To Gain $2 Million Dollar War Chest?

The Washington Post and the Vicksburg Post have reported that part of Congressman Bennie Thompson’s $2 million dollar campaign donations this year might have been secured by threats. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss), the powerful chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, threatened to hold hearings that would caused credit card companies to spend millions of dollars. At the same time, members of his congressional staff were soliciting campaign donations from these same companies. After some of these credit card companies made donations to Thompson the threats of these hearings were canceled.  The Democratically controlled Congressional Ethic Committee has  been investigating these donations since March 2009.

Now, the question has to be asked, how has Bennie Thompson been able to raise such HUGE sums of money to defeat his opponents for the last 17 years? How is it a congressman from one of the poorest districts in the nation can raise millions of dollars. What promises has Thompson made to whom? What companies have been extorted for thousand of dollars? Why has Bennie Thompson  gotten richer and  the people of his district gotten poorer? These are the questions the people of the Mississippi 2nd District should be asking.
